A Celebration of Faroese Music
Singer-songwriter Lyon Hansen, Faroese heavy metal band Tunghoyrt, and acclaimed artist Dania O. Tausen perform in a vibrant programme of Faroese music in Kaldalón on Culture Night. The programme is presented in collaboration with the Representation of the Faroe Islands in Iceland, which has for many years curated a diverse concert series at Harpa on Culture Night, showcasing many of the Faroe Islands' leading musicians.
4:00–4:30 pm
Lyon Hansen
In recent years, Lyon Hansen has established himself as one of the leading voices in Faroese folk music. He has released the albums Lyon (2015) and Skull-Sized Kingdom (2025), as well as several singles. Hansen has earned widespread acclaim for his heartfelt lyrics, sensitive songwriting, and a musical style that is both understated and deeply affecting.
4:45–5:15 pm
Tunghoyrt
The music of Faroese heavy metal band Tunghoyrt is powerful, expressive, and compelling. Formed in 2024, the band consists of four young Faroese musicians and released its debut EP, ÓJÓ, earlier this year. Tunghoyrt features Bjarni Jakobsen (drums), Erik Reynheim (bass), Helge Greve (guitar), and Jóni Strøm (vocals).
5:30–6:00 pm
Dania & Bartal
Dania O. Tausen and & Bartal team up for the first time at Harpa for Reykjavík Culture Night 2026. They are both musicians and poets who have received much praise for their storytelling and interesting compositions. Dania has released two albums; gonguteigatúnatos (2021) and ja/nei – og restin av vikuni (2023), which won the Album of the Year award at the Faroese Music Awards 2023. Dania has performed widely and has supported Eivør Pálsdóttir and also toured with the Icelandic band Supersport.
& Bartal is a peculiar guitarist and songwriter. Some describe him as surprising. Others doubt his cleverness, rolling their eyes, while calling him a poet. The lyrics are high-flown, and sometimes full of made-up words. The songs so dearly wish to be sung at banquets in nests around the islands, but wake up to a cold dream, on the way out through the gap of the idiosyncratic songwriter. Lately & Bartal has established himself as a soloist on the Faroese music scene, while slowly but surely producing his upcoming releases that will see the light of day soon. The performance in Reykjavík will contain songs by both Dania & Bartal.
