Harpa's mission is to be a venue for musical and cultural life as well as all kinds of conferences, meetings and gatherings, domestic and foreign. The building´s role is also to be a cultural centre in Reykjavík for all citizens and a destination for domestic and foreign tourists who want to get to know the building, its services and the architecture and artwork in the building.

The goal of the state and the city of Reykjavík with the construction and operation of the music and conference hall Harpa is to promote Icelandic musical and cultural life, strengthen Iceland's position in the field of conferences and tourism, and promote a vibrant human life in the city center. The company achieves its goals mainly by renting out halls and spaces for music events, conferences and meetings and related activities at competitive prices, by supporting collaborative projects and own projects as far as the company's operations allow, by organizing other activities in the building, e.g. restaurants and shops, to attract visitors and pedestrians, and by being open to tourists, domestic and foreign, all year round.

The purpose of Hörpustrengir is to operate selected events that mark the footprints of the Icelandic music- and culture scene and would not be possible without its involvement.
